Having worked in IT internal audit for many years now, and using google as a friend to discover what new tech or regulation is on the horizon that us auditors will have to learn, I have decided to put pen to (figurative) paper in the hopes it may help someone else!

Technology has become an indispensable tool for businesses across all industries, revolutionising the way organisations operate to the point where there is little differentiation between technology and business. However, this technological revolution has also introduced new challenges and risks that require careful oversight and assurance. IT internal audits role in all this is to become a trusted advisor to the organisation, helping technology leaders to implement effective governance & frameworks, manage risks in line with organisational risk appetite, provide assurance over the design & operating effectives of controls and effectively embed a culture of risk awareness at all levels.

With this blog I hope to provide insights into the latest trends, emerging technologies and regulatory impact (with an auditors lens of course), covering topics such as:

• Data: The heart to any organisation and the protection of which so many get wrong, data classification is the key player here which requires all employees of an organisation to understand their role in protecting customer data.

• Technology & Business Operational Resilience: This is a hot topic with DORA just around the corner! Organisations need to build a fortresses against disruption, be it market fluctuations to cyberattacks, and emerge stronger on the other side.

• Automated Controls Testing: As regulation and risk focus increases what can we do to think about risk, controls & compliance in a different and more progressive manner that is also scalable to a businesses needs. Spoiler alert (!) this involves automation, process design and working smarter.

• Financial Regulation Minefield: what is going on in the landscape of financial regulations and what do we need to think about from a tech & business perspective?
